Partnering Together – PV & KKR Dinner

Following our LP Meeting and CEO RoundTable on May 9th, PV partnered with KKR, a premier U.S. private equity firm, to co-host an exclusive dinner event at the Windsor Arms Hotel for 40 prominent growth-stage CEOs. The purpose of the evening was to introduce KKR’s new growth equity fund to a strong cross-section of Canadian growth stories, both from within and outside of our portfolio. KKR has expressed interest in building relationships and making investments north of the border.

Over food and drinks, our guests had the opportunity to network with their peers and to meet the KKR Growth team. After a successful evening of networking, Allan Jean-Baptise (Principal of Private Equity, TMT Growth), and Ken Mehlman (Co-Head of KKR Global Impact and current Chair of the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, as well as former chair of the RNC and President Bush’s 2004 campaign manager) led a fireside chat discussing cross-border relations and how companies can survive and thrive in a highly politicized climate. The discussion prompted thought-provoking questions from the audience and was a wonderful conclusion to our day’s full agenda.

Building Our Ecosystem

While the Canadian tech ecosystem is in a state of hypergrowth, there is no doubt that our entrepreneurs need access to larger sources of capital in order to achieve high potential outcomes. According to the Impact Centre’s Narwhal List 2018, Canada has nearly doubled the number of firms that are on track to become Unicorns since 2017; however, the report also states that “the sheer difference in scale between investments available to technology firms here and the US is a stark reminder that we have to be significantly smarter about how we nurture and invest in Canadian technology companies”.

As an advocate for the companies in which we invest, and for the greater Canadian technology economy, our team is committed to developing relationships with large sources of global capital. By helping to facilitate the relationship between our companies and firms with substantial resources and global reach, we hope to play a hand in developing the next wave of multi-billion dollar outcomes.
